Lyrica is the brand name for pregabalin, a medication primarily used to treat neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and certain types of seizures. It acts on the central nervous system by binding to specific subunits of voltage-gated calcium channels, which play a role in the transmission of pain signals.

By modulating these channels, pregabalin reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters in the spinal cord and brain. Consequently, it helps mitigate the chronic pain that arises from nerve damage or dysregulation, such as in diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia.
